Opportunities at CLEAR

Women's Land rights are contextualized at three levels. At the international level, advancement of women and the achievement of equality between women and men are a matter of human rights; the only way to build a sustainable, just and developed society; and achieving political, social, cultural and environmental security among all peoples. At regional level the Protocol to the African Charter, on Human People's Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, calls upon states to take all appropriate measures to promote women's access to productive resources such as land and their rights to property. At national level, policy makers now appreciate that the ability of agrarian relations depends to a significant extent on whether or not women - the custodians of African agriculture - have access to land and associated resources.
